FLLCasts – #1 STEM Platform
FLLCasts is a platform for teaching and learning Robotics & STEM. It is available at https://www.fllcasts.com. The platform provides assembly instructions for robots built with sets like LEGO Spike, LEGO Mindstorms EV3, LEGO Mindstorms NXT, LEGO Technic, VEX IQ, VEX EDR, Tetrix, Raspberry PI and custom build models developed with SolidWorks. Authors design and prepare the instructions and upload them on the platform. Teachers and students subscribe to them. All instructions, pictures, and videos are handled by BuildIn3d
Quick Stats as of second half of 2020:
- 1200+ assembly instructions.
- 50+ million delivered parts
- 70+ animated instructions.
How FLLCasts benefited from BuildIn3D?
Increased revenue
With the introduction of BuildIn3d in 2018, FLLCasts platform has achieved an ~85% increase of revenue. This was achieved as more people were subscribing and fewer users were asking for money back.
Reduced instructions related tickets
Almost ~3x reduction in the assembly instructions related tickets and great satisfaction in the students and teachers using the platform. The instructions were so easy to follow even an 8 year old could follow them and they actually do as most students on the platform are 8-12 years old.
IP protection
This was the main motivating to integrate and start to use BuildIn3D. When PDFs were previously distributed by the FLLCasts platform there were users subscribing for the service for a day, downloading the PDFs with the assembly instructions and then requesting a money back or filling a complaint with their banks because they just wanted to get the instructions for free. In this way Authors could not receive their fair share for working on the robots, designing them and preparing the assembly instructions.
Previews
All the robots have a preview of 11 steps. Users could see the start of the instruction. This makes it easier for the users to decide to subscribe to the platform.
Animations and reduction of video related costs
Before BuildIn3D, FLLCasts was recording short videos showing how the robots work and demonstrating them. Recording a professional video is expensive and tedious. It requires renting/maintaining a studio or studio setup with professional lighting, using expensive recording devices and it requires time to set up, record, edit and render the product demonstration videos. There is always the question of lighting, and of hands & shadows appearing in the recordings. This degrades the user experience. With the introduction of LIVE 3D animations and Rendered videos FLLCasts was able to present and demonstrate their robot constructions at a fraction of the costs of producing videos.
Consistent Product Presentation
All robots have a consistent presentation. The renders look the same and the whole experience on the site has improved.
